For us, here at the Michigan Green Party, we are Forward Thinking and want people that like us, would like to protect our biosphere, make sure that our lakes and air stay clean, and would like to prioritize the thriving of our Michigan families. Rei sits down with Texas Gubernatorial candidate, Delilah Barrios. Two Green Women discuss challenges and difficulties while working to change their environments.
This week we were able to explore some of the issues with Destiny Clayton our Green Leader Candidate running for the Governor of Michigan. Her insights into the challenges for people that she cares about gave powerful perspective to the current issues around our pandemic.
As many people may know as of this month unemployment is at 9.7% for the African American community, and women are at 5.6%. 1. Grassroots Democracy
Everyone has a voice and a say in how their community is run. Our work is about expanding ways and means of participation, increasing accountable and eliminating challenges.
2. Social Justice and Equal Opportunity
All people must have access to resources. We welcome all aspects of ourselves in our communities, organizations, and society at large. Any discrimination by race, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, nationality, religion, or physical or mental ability that denies fair treatment and equal justice under the law is not representative of our values or our goals.
3. Ecological Wisdom
We fully understand and recognize that we are part of nature, not separate from nature. Ecological balance is most important to our communities and our planet.
We work to demilitarize and prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction, staying aware of the intentions of other governments. Knowing that we may need self-defense, non-violence offers personal, community and global peace.
Restructuring of social, political and economic institutions away from a systemic oppression benefits the many instead of the few.
6. Community-Based Economics
People deserve to have the opportunity to develop and innovate an empowering, cooperative, and democratic economy.
7. Feminism And Gender Equity
We support human values including gender equity, interpersonal responsibility, and honesty. We live with the understanding that our processes for determining our actions effect how we achieve our desired outcomes.
8. Respect For Diversity
We value cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity. The diverse elements of society are key elements in our leadership.
9. Personal And Global Responsibility
Peace, economic justice, and the health of the planet are the center of our global wellbeing.
10. Future Focus And Sustainability
Economic development, new technologies, and fiscal policies must become sustainable, innovative, supportive of all communities, and offer long-term solutions in order to thrive.
